| In The Mood - http://www.paulhupton.com In The Mood is a murder mystery novel initially set in 1943, climaxing in present day 1985. The story begins with the deaths of war couple, Betty and John Laine and the adoption of their twin boys by Harrington Orphanage.
10 years later in 1953, the orphanage is burnt to the ground and 4 adults and 1 child are killed. The child is one of the twins and the 4 men that died are odd-job men with dubious backgrounds.
7 years later in 1960, a man is murdered and his body encased inside a concrete bridge support. 25 years later in 1985, a freak traffic accident reveals the final resting place of the man placed there 25 years earlier. It happens to be one of the men that died in the orphanage fire, so what happened in 1953? How could a man die in a fire in 1953, die again in 1960?
Detective inspector Philip Graves of New Scotland Yard is recalled home to the same village following a viscious assault on his father, who just happens to have been involved in the investigation into the traffic accident at the time. Graves begins to suspect a connection between his father's attack and the mummified remains inside the bridge.
What he doesn't realise is that the answer lies in the past, 42 years ago when twin boys were placed in an orphanage by a cruel twist of fate. |
